Monster of brooklyn is a group of young musicians, based in bushwhick. I knew a couple of the kids personally, and out of all of the rappers and singers i know, they were by far the most elevated. The represent authentic Brooklyn youth, soul, and passion, and i stopped by one of the cyphers with my camera and a note pad, to understand what Monsters of brooklyn was really about. Ive asked them questions and displayed their answers so its straight from their mouths.

In five years i see myself prolly touring either the world or the country. and maybe be in a movie or something.
I think the misconception of being a young artist is that we don’t have a lot to say but i think thats wrong because anybody that has been through something has a lot to say.
Monsters of brooklyn to me is my second family and also an eye opener when it comes to learning how to start your own movement and business from scratch
When i free style i try not to think to much because when i do thats when i mess up. its more like finding a balance between thinking and not thinking. you gotta think to say something hot or clever but you gotta let go to let it flow.
My music is important to me because it helps me make sense of either my thoughts or some of the events in my life that i sometimes can’t find words to explain. And when it comes to music with no lyrics, its still important because mane that one note can explain how you feel better then words.
ARIEL THE UNKOWN
In five years i see myself still performing, braced out with artists, constantly in the studio, and working with other people, progressing with my music. I always wanted to grow with my music and then help others.
You get doubted for the generation your in, since a lot of new rappers are coming in and changing the style that the old heads are just saying like “ yo what the hell is this”. Many get the idea that every young rapper has the same beats and dr seuss lyrics.
monsters of brooklyn meant a lot to me , its leap of faith when you strive to what position in music you wanna be. when i think of monsters of brooklyn, i think of unity
when i freestyle, its a cool of thoughts. i think about everything honestly, things around me, people, my daily thoughts, the feeling I’m in. when you freestyle its off the top, so its really how i feel and what life has brought me to free style.
my music is important to me because its my escape, the joy of writing a verse and it sounding great, performing and receiving cristism whether its constructive or not. just the feeling of accomplishing something and knowing that music is there and everywhere makes it a really important aspect of my life.

My stage name is Nyx, changed it after a change of heart. As for where i see myself in 5 years…i see myself with a fan base i can interact with and hopefully ill be touring by then. One misconception of being a young artist is that we don’t have experience or that we don’t have the power to change things. When i free style i think about making connections and entering a zone. When you enter a zone it becomes increasingly easy. Music is important to me because it has the power to unify people and tell the story of the youth and whats really going on in our heads.
Fuck trump. Honestly all it has shown me is that we need to come together as a community in order to handle the next 4 years. the music will reflect the people so as artists the election seeps into the way i speak of this county.
