This was the first photoshoot I've ever done. It was my sophomore year when i submitted my work to another online magazine called Lutefisk. That magazine was what inspired me to create Ice Vice. I gathered all of the kids in my honors class, and dressed them in dark clothes and took them to soho. I did this to show that kids are more then their grades. Honors students are often seen as dorky, or kiss-asses, and i wanted to break that stereotype. I put this shoot in my first issue because it now means something more. Looking at how all of these kids, who were sophomores at the time, killed this shoot, made me realize that the youth are so much more then what we are taught to believe. We are strong, bold, fierce, and we can shut down a shoot just like any adult could. This shoot means a lot to me, and it makes me really proud to know its now apart of my very first issue. If i had any advice to give to young aspiring artist, do not aspire.
just do.
No one is going to do it for you, so you have to be your own boss. You are strong, you are unique, and you will make it big (in what ever way that means to you) just as long as you never stop working on your craft. Sophomore year it took me two months just to gather this one shoot, now I'm balancing an acting career, my art and clothing line, and my own magazine just at the age of 17. When i did this photoshoot i never would have thought i would be where i was today, and this only happened because i just did it. I thought to myself, I'm sick of being rejected from these jobs, so I'm going to make my own. Although I'm not making money from this yet, it is still so valuable because it just shows that anything is possible. My dream for this magazine is to spark that fire in the new generations hearts to go out there and produce art, and be happy.
